I Will Not Sleep

I will not sleep.
Until the night remains calm for you
Until the hours become short
I will watch with you
For the storm that steals in the night,
That internal storm that torments you
I will watch out for you
Until the night is good for you
I will not sleep

  1. Wow. This made me cry.
Your words here and the emotion and actions behind them is amazing.
So beautiful. So profound. So sweet.
I’ve done this for several people in my life. And I will continue to do so.
But, no one has ever done this for me, yet. There are nights I have longed for this.
    HUGS!!! 🙂

It is impossible to know exactly what went down in those last hours, but those were my thoughts, also. So sad. Such a loss. Simply and beautifully written.

    • I actually wrote this a number of years ago when my sister was so very ill and I was too far away to help her..but I felt if I was close to her I wouldn’t leave her side. It has been relevant for other occasions like this in the same way since then.

  3. Your poem made me think of so many in my life…those who have battled cancer, etc…I’ve sat by their bedsides…even were with a a few who died….
but even more so those, when I read this poem…I thought of those who battle depression. They call me at all hours of the night, or text me, saying they are struggling, so depressed, “don’t want to live”, etc. and I wait with them, I say the words, I “will” them to make it through the long dark night, I don’t leave their side in spirit.
Again…this poem is amazing! One of the best poems I’ve ever read and I read a LOT of poetry.
    HUGS!!! 🙂
