Here’s a couple newer poems about life and hard work.

By Gnawing

Small and unknown
Like others of misfortune,
battles the routine of the day.
Unknown why,
Unseen how,
Burrowing through
by gnawing.
Scraping by on crumbs
found between the cracks,
Safe from the occasional broom,
a mouse’s life.

Day’s End

End of the day’s grind,
and cool water relief .
Ache of muscle, knuckle and steel toed boot
carried by a bent spine walk.
Tired knowing eyes stare down on the sweat and dusted shirt
that covers sunburned neck and arms
Thinking of the day’s earned pay and small sandwich reward
and rest.
Calm, quiet …… rest.

  1. Excellent poems, DSS!!! 🙂
You’ve weaved your words in a way that I can not only see the “scenes”, but I can feel the emotions!
    A mouse’s life, indeed!
A rest after a day of hard work, is a good feeling! It makes me sigh and smile!
    How was your whee-kend?!?!
    How you doing today?!
    HUGS!!! 😉

  2. Nicely done — you worked these beautifully.

  3. Ha! I added something to my “End Times” post. Something freaky happened at supper time. 😮 So, it may just be the end for ME and not for the world! 😀
