Better Angels

Again we are told Where.
The invisible where.
Searching for the mystic chords of memory
we were told binds us to the graves
of the brave, young and the innocent.
These thin chords made only of the light strings
of loud sounds and trailing smoke.
So easily absorbed, so quickly dispersed among the mist.
Chords so soon broken and forgotten.
Nothing done.
And still not touched
by the better angels of our nature.

Lyrical inspiration, DSS, and your add of haunted hopes for lessons yet to learn…I enjoyed the mix. – Ret

  2. Wow, DSS! Great, creative use of Lincoln’s words (that man knew how to talk. 🙂 )!!! Wonderful. timely poem! It touches heart and soul!

Now if everyone could read your poem and let it soak into their brains, maybe the world would become a better place. I wish good, positive, kind, helping, respectful, loving acts and feelings (etc) (better angels) would replace the ignorance, fear, tension, selfishness, hatred, (etc) that leads to wars and people hurting other people on our own soil. 😦

I was talking to a lady (I didn’t know her before our encounter at a gas station) who is the opposite of me in some ways (ethnicity, economics, background, etc) and we were commiserating over the fact that the world (especially the US) is taking giant steps backwards. 😦 She and I agreed on so much and ended our conversation with smiles and a hug. 🙂

HUGS to you and The Gang!!! 🙂
